Bolton Analysis | Calculation
- Bolton Analysis| Calculation
In 1958, Dr Wayne A. Bolton developed a calculation for determining the relationship between the total mesiodistal width of the maxillary teeth to that of the mandibular teeth.
In 1958, Dr Wayne A. Bolton developed a calculation for determining the relationship between the total mesiodistal width of the maxillary anterior teeth to that of the mandibular anterior teeth.
After calculation of the Bolton ratio, the arch with the relatively smaller tooth material is determined and the actual figure corresponding to the arch tooth size is located in these tables. Refer to the tables for the average values for the overall and anterior ratio (values are in mm).
- Bolton Analysis| Results
If the overall ratio is less than 91.3% this indicates that there is maxillary tooth material excess.
If the anterior ratio is less than 77.2% it indicates that there is maxillary anterior excess. If the anterior ratio is more than 77.2% it indicates that there is mandibular anterior excess.
