The Size and Shape of The Teeth | Dental Problems

Here, we're talking about individual teeth and their size and shape. This is called morphology.

The morphology of teeth can vary greatly between individuals, but properly occluded teeth should mesh together like gears

Malocclusion can often be traced back to differences in the size or shape of the teeth. These differences can be very subtle you may need to carefully examine and measure the teeth to detect them.

Here are various discrepancies:

  • Macrodontia
  • Microdontia
  • Anomalous teeth
  • Supernumerary teeth
  • Worn incisal edges and occlusal surface
  • Restoration (Image contains the example of Restoration)
  • Recession: Malocclusion is often accompanied by periodontal issues such as Recession
  • Notching at the cementoenamel junction: Malocclusion is often accompanied by periodontal issues that can include Notching at the cementoenamel junction (Abfraction)
  • Loss of attachment: Malocclusion is often accompanied by periodontal issues that can include Loss of attachment
  • Peridontal issues: Malocclusion is often accompanied by periodontal issues that can include Peridontal issues, Loss of interdental papillae (Black Triangle)
